Forest

Christmas Day

By Skylight RainPublished 4 years ago 1 min read
My Sons Little Brother

When we think about Christmas we think about the kids receiving gifts

Well at least in my mind

I think of the happiness of my children always and first

Trying to get everything on their list

Some gifts I could not provide as a single mother

Expensive gifts were out the window

Humbling my children to the value of money

Last year I received a gift

Yes my next door neighbor surprised me with a chihuahua

My pupils in my eyes lit up

As if I was a yellow almost clear lights that wrap around the tree

Deciding to call him Forest because I am one with nature

I whispered in his pointy ears, I will take care of you

God and I will protect you

Knowing that I did not want anymore children

I was provided with the gift of life

A soul that loved and loves me unconditionally from the start

So obedient needing no leash as he walks aside me

Responding to his name when he runs a bit far away

Playing fetch and passing me his toy without even showing him

He has taught me that I will not be alone when the kids are off to school

You are more than just a pet you are family

Couldn't imagine my life without you
