For The New Year
Instructions from an experienced "expecter"
The golden year you've waited for
Arrived and here you are
Just following the same routines
That haven't worked, so far.
The same occurred, twelve months ago,
Your expectations grand,
And all the wondrous things you sought
Sailed by, avoiding land.
The calendar has no regard
For you or what you want.
No magic comes from marking time
On life's uncertain jaunt.
The path was always up to you.
The blockade's yours to breach.
And only you can say just what
You can, or cannot reach.
Don't wait for 2026
To fulfill your desires
While standing in the ashes of
The previous year's fires.
Pick up the reins, get on the path,
Then spur yourself along.
You have the gifts, you know the way,
Rise up, and start out strong.

As much for myself as any who need to read it. Thanks for spending some time with my musings.

For a long time, I've always felt that change starts whenever I'm ready for something better, not just when a calendar year advances. This poem is in total alignment with my M.O. Thanks for writing and sharing, Dana!
Great advice and a wonderful poem for the new year. Love it - the pace, the rhymes and the fun of it. I’ll get to it now!
"The calendar has no regard/For you or what you want." Isn't that the truth right there. Loved the realness and also the hope found in your words :) This was a gift, BB!
"Don't wait for 2026 To fulfill your desires While standing in the ashes of The previous year's fires." I especially loved these lines!
Wow does this ever speak to me, and confirms I made the right decision regarding my next steps for 2026. I feel better after reading this. I will continue supporting by reading, but writing on Vocal has taken a back seat. ( For now)
I never really have any expectations with the new year. It’s just another day to me, but if people take it as their cue to change things, all the more power to them. Thank you for the reminder that the power to change is in us, not in a particular date.
I needed to hear this. I admit I fall prey to the “new year, new me” mentality. Slow and steady. There is no magic to it!
