Follow Me To The Food Fair
A collection of my “food”poems in a variety of poetic styles!
1. Cupcakes (acrostic)
Chocolatey, fudgy and moist
Ultimately a weekend treat
Pretty as a thousand painted teacups
Cakes that you can literally hold in the palms of your hands
Are magical edible works of art
Kind of impossible not to purchase
Easy to carry, eat, share, concoct and decorate
Sweet like a box of gourmet truffles.
2. Tea Party (free verse)
Shiny peach porcelain tea cups
bubbling perfumed nettle water
sinking inside the coral teapot.
Raspberry cheesecake scones
savoury party sandwiches
to devour and pig out on.
Women in taffy pink lolita gowns
white satin gloves, ballet slipper hats
and blush lemonade mary janes.
Men in black ebony tuxedos
shiny onyx dress shoes
with their hair buzzed and polished.
Husbands and wives
dancing to the opaque mixes
of voiceless beats.
A collection of crescendos
from the upbeat church organ
to the melodic recorder.
3. Strawberries (haiku chain)
Rich sugary plants
that hang on tree branches;
eat those ornaments!
Wholesome as apples
and gorgeous as scarlet stones;
grab some guilt-free sweets!
Vivid as tiny roses
that are stored in baskets;
we call them love berries!
4. Lollipop (free verse)
I’m as spherical as a
dark, juicy magenta gumdrop.
I’m sweet as a strawberry
and merry as a puppet.
I’m pink as a plump raspberry
and wear a white paper stick.
I’m the size of a figurine
but am edible as an apple.
I live in a candy store
with my sticky siblings.
I pose and face the window
as people pass by me
5. Pink Edible Fluff (haiku chain)
Pink sugar fluff
on a paper cone
a carnival snack.
Blue edible cotton
in a plastic bag
a child’s dessert.
Lilac candy clouds
mixed with taffy and blue
a treacle pillow.
6. The Taste of the Philippines (haiku chain)
Now purple as
grape juice and sweet
as warm blueberry pie.
Right in your mouth,
you taste the
season of summer.
Right on the tip
of your tongue,
you feel the waves
of the mauve ocean.
7. Mother Earth’s Gumdrops (free-verse)
The colossal fruit trees
stand above the sunless wisteria sky
as overlapping iris clouds
become visible as lilac snowflakes.
The sound of silent heather raindrops
becomes as musical as a xylophone
being played under the trees of
the big purple orchard.
Tumbling from the crisp trees
are mother earth's gumdrops
in the colour of cranberry jelly
and the size of magenta pebbles.
8. Jolly Jumble (free-verse)
Sticky taffy marbles
dipped in colours of the rainbow
and melted granulated sugar in a pot
huddle over like a pile of bouncing balls.
Blue like cobalt stones on the table,
pink like fuchsia marbles rolling around
and red like holly berries in a container.
A green marble found in the crowd,
in the colour of kiwis and Granny Smith apples
and sour like a bottle of lime Perrier.
I see a few yellow marbles,
in the colour of bananas and star fruit
and sweet like tropical pineapple smoothies.
