Flip the Script

Fighting Ableism

It’s time to

Flip the script

And write it in

A new way.

Normal isn’t

One thing

It’s many.

It’s time to flip

The script

We need to do

Things a little

Differently

A wheelchair

A prosthetic

Braces on your legs

No more define a person

Than the color of their eyes.

It’s time to flip

The script

Destroy the very

Definition of ableism

Pull it out

Of our lives

Look at things

A little differently.

A physical difference

Isn’t a tragedy

It’s just that

A difference.

It’s time to flip

The script

Embrace the person

Not look at them with

Sad eyes

As we talk

In condescending tones.

It’s time to flip

The script

Take the need

For words like

Ableism out

Of our vocabulary.
