do you see her?
the girl in the corner?
she’s a dreamer.
there’s a noose tied around her neck,
but she believes it’s the string of a balloon
meant to help her fly.
she dances on the edge of the cliff
and falls in love with the sensation of flying
as she falls.
weightless,
yet a thousand pounds.
she laughs as she twirls
in the rain,
blind to the stares and scowls
of the ones who deem her strange.
she thinks the sun over his head
is a halo,
but she’s too caught in the clouds
to see the flames that dance in his eyes.
that girl in the corner?
she’s a dreamer.
beautiful yet doomed.
she doesn’t realize that
happily ever after
doesn’t exist in the real world.
she laughs
as she falls to her death,
but all she can see
are the
stars.
