First Snow Joy

A poem about the joy of that first snow

Snowflakes fall from grey skies

each flake floating and twirling down like graceful dancers

We've met before, these flakes, from one winter to the next

but like an old friend, their return makes me smile

It's like the first snow all over again

There is an aura of wintry magic in the air

The air is cold, but my soul feels warm

Grassy fields, pepples, and dirt

all transformed into an icy snow covered landscape glistening in the winter sun

I sift the snow between my fingers

numbingly cold yet somehow gratifying

I hear the slick crunch of the snow under my boots

I turn back and smile at my footprints in the snow

It really is like the first snow all over again
