Finding Yourself Again

A quiet, contemplative poem about rebuilding after emotional rupture. “Finding Yourself Again” explores the tender work of rediscovering your inner voice—not by retrieving the past, but by learning to live gently with who you’re becoming.

There comes a moment when you stop trying to rewrite the past

because you realize it isn’t coming back the way it left.

You’ve outgrown versions of yourself

you didn’t even know you were shedding —

through endings you didn’t choose,

through changes you weren’t ready for,

through every silent ache that taught you how to breathe again.

And slowly, almost quietly,

you begin to return to yourself.

This poem belongs to that return.

The Unraveling

Healing doesn’t ask you to pretend.

It asks you to feel everything,

even the things you’ve buried deeply.

You come apart in small, unexpected ways —

in memories you thought would fade,

in promises that lost their shape,

in the doubts that curled around your hope.

But every unraveling

is a beginning disguised as loss.

Sometimes it’s only when the seams break

that you learn where you truly hold together.

The Quiet After

There’s a stillness that arrives after heartbreak —

a quiet so wide it almost echoes.

You look for the version of you

that smiled without hesitation,

that loved without armor,

that trusted too quickly.

But she no longer lives here —

and somehow,

that truth doesn’t hurt the way it used to.

Because the space she left behind

isn’t emptiness.

It’s possibility.

It’s where your new voice begins.

The Relearning

Finding yourself again

isn’t about reclaiming what was lost.

It’s about learning to move gently

with what remains.

You start choosing differently.

You start loving with intention.

You begin to speak to yourself

with a patience you never had before.

What once felt like a fracture

slowly becomes a doorway.

What once felt like breaking

becomes a kind of opening.

The Becoming

You stop mourning the person you were

and start welcoming the person you’re building.

You discover strength

in the smallest acts of softness.

You realize healing isn’t loud —

it’s consistent.

It’s the courage to keep showing up

even when nothing feels certain.

Finding yourself

isn’t a reunion.

It’s an unfolding.

***

Thank you for reading.

May you remember that even in the in-between, you are already becoming someone braver, softer, and more true to yourself.

This is so well expressed. I recognize the in-between and appreciate such identification of a place with no name.

I can relate to this so much! You captured the process of breaking and gluing yourself back together so well.

  • We're always evolving and letting go of some things in the past is the only way we can move forward.

  • A lot of what you said makes sense. As Sandy mentioned the line, finding yourself isn’t a reunion but an unfolding, is powerful and holds much truth.
