Finding True Love

I heard recently, from a show, that when you find the person you're meant to be with it's meant to feel as if you were struck by lightning

I disagree

Lightning should not merely strike you

Your true love should make it feel like lightning runs in your veins

Bringing true excitement, not just sexual or romantic but, the excitement that comes with knowing you'll get to experience life with *this* person

Your true love will be able to uplift you and bring you low all with a glance

And they will know all of you

And you will know all of them

And this will bring you shame.

Not the shame of humiliation, but the shame of self-reflection

For if you don't live up to your own standards, the standards of the better person they make you want to be, you will believe they will think less of you

And when they learn of your shortcomings they will love you all the same

And they will lift the world's weight off your shoulders with a smile

You will feel like you want to do everything for this person

And yet you'll feel like they have to do nothing

No romantic dinner could compare to getting lost in their eyes

No cute date could compare to drowning willfully in their arms

No night of passion could compare to a simple kiss, one that never fails to feel like its the first time

No moment of excitement could compare to seeing their smile and feeling the world fall from beneath your feet because there is simply no way you remain on earth when in the presence of an angel

And yet

Some days will be filled with trying

and some will feel like they pass as nothing

For being with them will make all of life's trials and tribulations seem effortless

They will be the first person you want to celebrate with

The first you want to grieve with

The first you want to sit in silence with

So no

Meeting your true love will not feel like something so trivial and mild as being struck by lightning

It will feel like much more

Like you can and would move mountains, tame seas, fell great beasts, face the entire world's armies, challenge deities

And the most difficult of all

Being with them will feel like you can be your true, unfiltered, broken, perfect, lovable self
