How True Connections Find Comfort, Just Like Hedgehogs in Winter

Life is like a train journey. Along the way, you’ll meet many people, and some will part ways with you. In the end, you never know who will stay by your side until the last stop.

When it comes to connecting with others, feeling comfortable together is what matters most. A genuine relationship needs no effort to impress; there’s no need for forced smiles or extra energy to keep it going. Two people who connect naturally will enjoy each other’s company with ease.

If you find yourself putting in too much effort to please someone, it’s a sign that the relationship isn’t meant to last. I once came across a saying: ‘People are like hedgehogs in the winter. Get too close, and you feel the sting; stay too far, and you feel the chill.’ Only by keeping an appropriate social distance can people truly connect without awkwardness or discomfort.

I hope everyone finds someone they can be at ease with—whether it’s a friend or a partner—who will walk alongside them for a lifetime.
