Final Prize
Life of Cards Abecedarian Poem (Version 1)

Adapt to what I am
By accepting what I’m dealt
Cards of different houses
Doled by chance or fate
—
Each card embossed with flora
Florid Xochitl meaning ‘life’
Granted by the Highest
Holy one of old
—
I cannot change His dealing
Just use the cards I have
Knowing what I’m holding
Learn to play the game
—
My hand is called to table
No card is left unturned
Open, out, and anted
Players turn the hands to prove
—
Questions left from bluffing
Reservations of the mind
Straights and filled up houses
This hand was lost, but still
—
Until the game has ended
Vict’ry’s not ensured
While players give new antes
Xochitl gathered in their hands
Yield nothing to the eyes
Zero’d in on final prize

My collection of sometimes decent writing
Which I've left "there" for seekers to seek
Though I lack the grandeur of that Pirate King
Perhaps these pebbles can be a light
In this life, this laughing tale
