Feline and Fancy-Free
Prompt: If you were a cat, what would you do with those nine lives?
Oh, to be a worshiped Sphinx
deft hands gifting warmth
to my velvet skin
pink and delicate
πππββ¬πππββ¬
I would settle for waking up
a Scottish Fold-ear
giving precious eyes
until you came to the
corner where I await
sweeping me up in cradling arms
cooing to calm me
πππββ¬πππββ¬
I would thrill to appear
a rugged Maine Coon
a mass of muscle and
luxurious hair
strutting and exploring our
wooded fairy glade
playing the games you
create and more
πππββ¬πππββ¬
I would prance about
the perfect Persian
pillow princess
basking at your every
beck and whistled call
πππββ¬πππββ¬
I would stealthily stalk
as a slinky Siamese
stealing your bread and
nightly yowling at
your bedroom door
πππββ¬πππββ¬
I would perfect the art of
untamability as a
shining-eyed Lynx
treading upon the
deep snow of life
searching you out
keeping my distance
taking crossing paths over
jagged rock and unseen ground
πππββ¬πππββ¬
I would plummet down
mountain ravines
as a perceptive Puma
flinging myself recklessly
to reach your remote heart
crying into the night
at my first sighting of
your wary inspiration
πππββ¬πππββ¬
I would hunt you
a fat leaping gazelle
one with graceful arcing horns
dragging it back
bearing fangs dripping crimson
if I were a fierce Lioness
roaming the open savanna
searching out gifts
to buy your fickle love
πππββ¬πππββ¬
Yet, I'm just a stray
making the best of
my last try
I bring only what I carry
a song in my heart
divot in my scapula
Somehow I manage
to stretch out lazily
taking a nap in the sun daily
Iβll be here when you arrive
on your ninth life
relaxed enough to settle
reclining in the gleaming patch
next to mine
