FAITH
Have you ever had someone tell you
To just have faith,
While you’re fighting a battle they can’t imagine?
Clawing your way out of a hole that seems to have no light,
All for them to offer this advice,
“Just trust God.”
They say we walk by faith and not by sight,
That without faith it is impossible to please the Father,
And no matter how cliche these truths may seem,
Especially when you are face to face with your adversary,
I must admit
That I too forget
Just how much weight faith carries.
See my faith is a superpower.
It causes fear to disappear.
It is a force fueled by hope alone,
With the capacity to swallow uncertainty whole.
And I’ve watched it,
Self-correct my crown when doubt had knocked it loose.
And I’ve seen it,
Shatter the noose of questions that try to suffocate my voice when expectations is on my lips,
See my faith is a power to be reckoned with.
And I know
That in the presence of confusion and doubt,
When my mind is occupied by depression and all these other things I feel I can not do without,
I will place my faith on a rock that will not move,
I will choose to believe.
It may not be done perfectly
But it IS done consistently.
When my company is with fear, hurt, and disdain,
I am reminded
That though my eyes see drought,
It’s my faith that smells the rain.
