A Name Colored Black

The Shade of my Identity

By Ciarra TurnerPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

A Name Colored Black

What is the meaning of your name?

This question goes beyond surface level inquiry.

Into the greatest connection to identity.

This word is stamped to you at birth

In pursuit of your individuality,

A word seemingly so big that it prophesies your destiny.

In curiosity, I sought the meaning of my name,

CIARRA, in its proper spelling,

I found

BRIGHT... FAMOUS... BLACK.

A color used to describe darkness

Or a place where evil plays,

A color attached to my skin

That for some, has marked the end of their days.

A color that introduces fear to anxious souls,

A color associated with blind steps and holes.

But BLACK isn’t always attached to death and defeat,

No, BLACK is where agreement and contradiction meet.

It is where the absence of color and light collide,

A space where FAMOUS stars are thrown into galaxy; just call me night sky.

Yes, BLACK may be a place where evil plays,

But BLACK is also the turning point that marks a new day.

Black is gloom refined,

Chiseled into a form of BRIGHT, that can only originate in the mind of God.

My name is fire given and hand-picked,

A force that colors me brick.

See my name is

brilliance, adventure, power, bold

Fearless, vibrant, courage, gold

Catalyst, necessary, brave in attack,

Strength, BRIGHT, FAMOUS, BLACK.

A name that left the lips of the creator as verbal calligraphy

designed to fill the ‘in between,’

My name is a shade of black that only heaven has seen.

So allow me to introduce myself,

Hi, my name is Ciarra.

I love chicken, lemonade, and studying things that I don't know much about

I'm still learning that fear and depression are a couple of things I can live without

I don't claim to know much, but this is fact,

I am proud that my name means BRIGHT, FAMOUS, and BLACK.
