even butterflies need to land

Everyone needs a moment to themselves sometimes.

A social butterfly is what they call me,

so they seem in shock when I ask for a moment's respite.

Don't butterflies land for a moment as well,

for more than just food or a lover's dance,

or even the unintentional interaction they participate in

when they land only to add to a kaleidoscope of color.

I imagine they wish to land if only to have a moment

to breathe and replenish themselves before taking flight again,

maybe even to take in the beauty or silence around them.

So perhaps shock shouldn't be their first response.

Admiration at my understanding that even the most social of us

needs a moment of silence, to be able to breathe,

that, that is what they should feel.

Beautiful. I love the imagery and metaphor of the butterfly. We all have to rest our wings a little, once in a while β€οΈπŸ¦‹
