Emerging from the Narrow Place, I Open My Eyes to You
And though I could not imagine you, lover,
I could imagine the many possibilities of you,
the infinite variations of eyes upon mind,
green black white, almond haze.
How stark the opportunity of you,
the pending moment of reunion,
when you will come to me clad
in lullabies, clad in gauzy scarlet leaves.
Once, from under the earth, I rose rose rose
and saw your face. You made no promise
to plant me, but through my roots
I heard your name.
Now under the blanket of moonlight,
sapphire murmurs in light of rain.
I nestle among the blueberry bushes and
dream, dream of your golden gaze.
