Ego

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 5 months ago 1 min read

[Verse]

Ego’s a mirror with cracks in the glass

A carnival mask

A shadow that laughs

It’s the grief we wear

The hate we bring

The song of the cruel

The sorrow it sings

It’s in the words we twist

The truths we bend

A fire that feeds

No start

No end

[Chorus]

Ego is grief

Ego is pride

Ego’s the storm we keep inside

Ego is love

Ego is war

It’s the lock

The key

And the broken door

[Verse 2]

It hides in the jokes

The sharp-edged wit

In the smile that stings

The bitter spit

It’s the victim’s cry

The martyr’s throne

The cruelest voice when you’re alone

It’s in the eyes that judge

The hands that take

The fault we find

The truth we fake

[Chorus]

Ego is grief

Ego is pride

Ego’s the storm we keep inside

Ego is love

Ego is war

It’s the lock

The key

And the broken door

It's ego
