Echoes of a Boy Long Gone
A Haunting Presence That’s Not Quite There
The problem with Tommy is
he’s not really there;
he’s not howling with glee,
pouring ink in his hair.
He's not torturing a fiddle,
or setting fire to your chair;
he's not dancing a jig,
hurling cats through the air.
For he died last October,
when the maples stood bare,
while taunting the knife thrower
at the West County Fair.
So despite how he screams,
shrieks, screeches and swears,
as he races stark naked
through the busy town Square;
and despite how he chills you
with his icy-cold stare;
The real problem with Tommy is-
he's not really there.

Scary. But excellent writing. Love everything about it 🖤🖤🖤
wow! this is outstanding. Love the vibe, timely read the night before halloween! Also, excellent pacing and structure. I can never get the knack for word-rhythm in my own attempts at poetry, so when I see someone else knock it out of the park like this, I'm duly impressed :)
