Earrings To Match

Some jewelry I received a few years ago

Compliments pour in about the ring

I wear on my right hand. It isn’t bling

It is lovely and I wear it almost every day

I was given a bag of turquoise jewelry, and hey

I was so pleased that my daughter's friend

would think of me. It pleased me to no end.

~

She insisted that she wouldn’t wear it

I said I promise you that I will, and I hit

the jackpot with all of those jewels.

Are there any kind of rules

to go along with this? I told her I could pay

She said she wouldn’t take anything anyway.

~

I wore a bracelet, ring, and earrings, a set

into the jewelry store. I asked how much I could get,

and I was told $300. used. More if they were new.

That was such a small amount of what I had. It blew

my mind. I instantly got her a $100. gift card.

That is what I could afford at the time.

I thanked her and told her over and over how prime

her gift was. And to let me know if she ever changed her mind.

~

The earrings match the ring and other items, too

A beautiful turquoise bracelet was such a coup

And several earrings matched well enough, as did a few

other items. I bought a smaller pair from a friend down the road

I feel like I could give her another gift card for what I own

For all the beautiful jewelry. It is a load

of fun to decide what I will wear just to have shown

it off. I will get compliments, and tell a story of it being on loan.

I understand that turquoise is not for everyone. And some now feel like it is Native American jewelry. Maybe it is, and that is why I was given the jewelry that I was given. She didn’t say that. I know that it is considered to have healing properties. So I don’t refuse it ever!

A lovely poem. I love the turquoise color and think turquoise jewelry is special. I gave my wife a turquoise ring the first time we went to the Maldives because it looked just like the color of the ocean, very special.
