Dusk & Dawn

Two souls: forbidden love and devotion.

By K. Dominique Published 6 months ago 1 min read

I met him

In the hush of a garden entangled with Ivy

Where the air carried the weight of roses

A silhouette of a man remained between the shadows

Lingered in my peripheral vision,

Catching me at first glance

He was quiet at first

Staring at me

Like I was the prophecy he’d forgotten

And just remembered

With a breath too deep to hide

My skin

Rich with the tenderness of dusk

Held the moon like a secret

And his?

Skin as pale as winter’s snow

Hands shivered as he reached for me

I didn’t flinch

I never do

I let him feel what centuries tried to erase

The warmth of flames.

The softness of being seen.

“How long have you wandered?” I asked

“Forever. But you… feel like the end of my searching.” He said to me.

With eyes as green as an enchanted forest.

He kissed me

Not like a larcenist

But like a man giving himself away.

Slow and honest.

Hungry in a way that made me forget every cold and lonely night before him.

I let him in

I let him rest inside the sanctuary of my body

In sweat and breath

And the hush between moans.

He held me like poetry

His hands writing ballads on my back

His lips calling out for me

As if it had always lived

In the marrow of his bones.

We didn’t rush

There was no need

Melted into one

Ivory and Onyx.

When it was over

We didn’t speak

He rested his head on my chest

And I let him listen

To the sound of survival.
