Dusk and Dawn

A Poem

Dusk had come without a warning

And Dusk barged in, with no regret

The sun had shone and wind had blown

But Dusk had come, and now, forget.

Forget the calming, gentle breeze,

Forget the joys that came with light,

For Dusk had come, and in its tow,

It’s taken all that had been right.

And then Dusk left, too, gone away

And Night had come to take its spot

Dusk was kinder - it still had hope

But Night had come. All hope was shot.

And Night was crueler than the Dusk

Far crueler than you would believe

For Night took all without remorse;

It left you nothing to achieve

And Night was cold and Night was dark

Night would never be forgiving

It stole your peace, your joy, your life,

Even stole your right to grieving.

Night came with promises of death

With angry fists and raging shouts

It came with glowing sadnesses,

And shaking, screaming, terrors, doubts.

And Night, so cruel, it would not leave

And it stayed for what felt like years

Through push and pull, the Night hung on,

‘Til you were drained of all your tears

And then, at last, Night gave its way

And rays of sunlight just shone through

For Dawn had come at last, and it

Revealed what’s good, what’s right, what’s true.
