Drifting in the Sea of Longing
A Poignant Ghazal by Salman Savaji

Salman Savaji, a celebrated 14th-century Persian poet, was known for his deeply emotional and expressive poetry. His verses often depict the agony of longing, the sorrow of separation, and the restless heart that wanders in search of love. In this ghazal, he portrays the lover as a wave lost in the ocean, a shadow yearning for the sun, and a soul intoxicated by longing. The poem beautifully captures the despair of waiting and the eternal hope for reunion.
🌿 My heart drifts away, lost in your light,
Like a restless wave, fading from sight.
💫 Like a shadow, I wander, longing for you,
O sun of my soul, must I chase you too?
✨ The wind steals my heart, my soul, and my pain,
Tell me, where does love lead in vain?
🌙 You have left, yet I still remain,
Like a tear on the sleeve of sorrow’s domain.
