Lurid Wanderings

I go walking when I slumber

Through forests that glimmer

Over hills of umber

Past rivers that shimmer

Mountains rip skies asunder

And heated deserts that simmer

Through purple woods

Spotted deer dash

With their thunderous hooves

Gone in a flash

Fish fins brush clouds

As they fly through the air

Mysterious eyes leer through shrouds

Approach them if you dare

Swift and carnivorous

Fanged butterflies flit

Wing beats vociferous

Careful, don’t get bit

Pale frogs croon a melody

Safe among the fronds

A crow watches jealously

And angrily responds

Across shifting sands

Scorpions skitter

Claw expands

It’s carapace glitter

There I’ll be

You see?

In this land I only glean

When I dream
