At work, the money used to flow
Then demand started to slow
Departments were lost
Seen as too high of a cost
So, some employees were let go
People's lives became dismantled
Contracting companies tried to scramble
Hired-in employees applied
To various jobs, and tried
To keep their income for living, but it seemed a gamble
Competing for promotions with people already in those positions
Every worker had a different set of conditions
Single moms, New fathers, and Bachelors with Degrees
New positions and Horizontal transfers, many would squeeze
Some people had more favorable admissions
Educational Levels, Work Experience, and Certificates
All determined were we placed in some order of significance
Even people that matched perfectly on paper
Had opportunities vanish into thin air, like scentless, untraceable, vapor
Trying to transfer or get a promotion made us become more like Sisyphus
Coworkers were dispersed throughout, causing a panicked commotion
It was a worrisome time for all, causing high emotions
Adults were confronted with on of their biggest fears
The evaporation of their career(s)
To stay employed the majority took demotions
It felt like all we could do was pray
The false promise of job security in our department made us feel betrayed
Few of us heard promising news
After being blessed enough to earn one, let alone several, interviews
Some demotions thankfully made sure that people kept the same pay
A company out of its workforce is comprised
Yet, some people had to do more than just compromise
The few that got transferred had more than just luck
Be wary of departments that pop up for companies to make a quick buck
As those are the first to go, when companies downsize

Such a sad situation that seems to be happening more and more. An is as you suggest all quite arbitary. :(
This is the sad reality of how work works. I really loved this line, "Had opportunities vanish into thin air, like scentless, untraceable, vapor"
Thavien, you nailed it!!! Left some ❤️❤️💕
Shares an ugly story quote beautifully.
