down, down
what's the harm in a gentle kiss from your most consistent lover?
By Rebeka GustafsonPublished 4 years ago • 1 min read

the softest smile as the poison begins to reach your lips
with each kiss you witness another piece of you
die off
little by little, over years and years
mind, body, and soul
yet, still
“à votre santé”
(to your health)
a cheerful little laugh escapes your lips
our eyes lock
mischievous and ready
as yet another shot is poured
and another after that
down the hatch
down, down
to your health
conversations you could never remember
nights as hazy as the four-a.m. fog
down, down
who have you become
can you even remember anymore
or is it lost
forever again
in all of those hazy nights
“à votre santé”
