four-a.m.

does time pause for everyone when it pauses for me?

By Rebeka GustafsonPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

I can’t remember the last time I was awake this early

I think inspiration found me in my dreams

it’s so cathartic to exist in the world before the sun wakes for its day

from the moment I stepped under the deep indigo sky

it felt as if I’d entered a secret corner of the world

unbeknownst to most

as if someone paused time

just to ensure I could appreciate this moment

in all its beauty

I’ve grown so accustomed to the fast city life

romanticizing the instability

the excitements, the adventures, the possibilities

but I fell in love with this city in an entirely new way

this morning at four-a.m.

the downtown lights reflecting off the melancholy clouds

the dew kissing my steps

the importance to slow down and marvel

take a breath

breathe in these moments

breathe in the beauty that surrounds me

breathe in the perfect little moments

the perfect little moments that give my life meaning

these four-a.m. moments
