In the fashion of Hemingway
at long length
and in great detail we talk
of salmon served with ginger crepes
the copious amounts of scotch imbibed
In perfect pitch and cadence
set the scene
rich, full notes
falling as rain
To speak more plainly
would serve only to
curb the appetite -
Carefully woven in this tapestry
of dinner conversation
the texture of things:
the hem of a velvet skirt
a leather glove
bristling hairs against silky skin -
Of food and drink we talk then
or even of the weather
lest this confection should sour
words dissolving, bitter
on the tongue
