Dirty Water

by: Teresa J. Lavender

By Teresa LavenderPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

You're telling lies, it's getting harder to find the truth.

You're cutting ties we never thought would come loose.

You're going places where you shouldn't be,

and every night you come running back to me.

When you wash your hands in dirty water

you can't expect them to come clean

when you tell your secrets to someone's daughter

you wash your hands in dirty water, they ain't never comin' clean.

Too many faces, too many places you've been seen

too many answers, too many spaces in between

too many chances to change the wrongs to right

too much darkness where there should be much more light.

When you wash your hands in dirty water

you can't expect them to come clean

when you tell your secrets to someone's daughter

you wash your hands in dirty water, they ain't never comin' clean.
