Still Me, Just Different

At my core

I still remain

true to who I am

:

But

I've been trying

things out differently

to see how I can

live differently

:

I still asked him out

because I know

in my core if

you don't ask

you don't get

:

I listened more

because in the past

I talked too much

:

I allowed him to be

the one to kiss me first

because in the past

I was always bold enough

to make the first move

:

I allowed myself to be

softly submissive

because in the past

I was a dynamo dominatrix

:

I am allowing myself

to take it as it comes

to enjoy every moment

because in the past

:

I often pushed

the pedal to the metal

watching moments

stream past me

like looking out the window

on the highway

and seeing the world

pass my eyes

in a stream of colors

:

or

I waited too long

with a narrow focus on

the distant destination

Waiting anxiously

made it seem

like an eternity to reach it

So much that I forgot to enjoy

all the scenery I passed

along the way

:

I am allowing myself

to try things differently

so I can try out being

a different me

:

Transformed in my ways

but still rooted in my being

love poems
