Didn’t Need It

I just jumped off the rat race bus

Didn’t Need It

I thought I had to chase

what everyone else wanted.

The big dream, the name

the glow of being seen.

Tried to speak like them,

move like them.

Like maybe I’d matter more.

I actually made less of me.

It wore me down

all that reaching.

nothing felt mine

not even my smile.

I used to think

success meant noise,

meant being noticed

meant getting picked.

How wrong,

peace came quietly

when I stopped running,

when I let myself

just be still, be the real me.

Now I don’t chase, No.

don’t twist or shrink. No.

I make my own way

and it fits just fine.

This is all I need.
