Dear, Mr Alien

An intro and plea

Dear Mr Alien, welcome to our beautiful blue planet.

It's still thriving, despite our attempts to ruin it

We have some beautiful oceans and beautiful seas

Just ignore all the pollution and have a cup of tea

Admire the mountains that loom over every one of us

From the top you can see so much that'll make you cuss

Paradisaic rainforests being decimated and destroyed

Destruction and death where armed forces are deployed

Maybe you could help us, bring us back from the brink

Distribute food fairly, end poverty, what'd you think?

So many of our people, they really mean the very best

It is a minority, that keep their wealth to their chest

Your advanced tech, intellect could help shine a light

We need to act carefully and tactfully, to avoid a fight

A bloodthirsty world, of warmongering greedy nations

They will likely try to privitise the helpful innovations

If you've come to kill us all, or take over the Earth

Look beyond our collective, and find individual worth

Not every single human, deserves total annihilation

Some here really try their best, despite their limitations

Spend some time here getting to know the average joe

Not government officials, or those with all the dough

Even if you find us hard to stomach, give us a chance

Help us to find true peace, and to achieve balance

Don't try to invade us, trust me, that would be bad

We'll nuke you and ruin the best chance we ever had

Please, Mr Alien, help us save our beautiful blue planet

Maybe you can help us to thrive and stop ruining it

Thanks for reading!

Forgot to add my usual spiel!

I kinda feel like, if I met an alien I would wanna warn them and also ask for their help!

Hope you enjoy it!

Nice! Social commentary but in a soft, apologetic kind of way ☺️ I echo Grz… we shall vote you peacekeeper 😉

  • I understand that you would wanna warn them. That's how I felt whenever someone came for an interview at my old job. I loved your poem! It would be really nice if we can end poverty and war.

I love this take on the challenge. I really enjoy the thought of the aliens helping us not destroy our lovely planet!

This was a really deep and heartfelt poem, Paul! I loved the double-sided nature of us and our planet you present! Lol your warning about our habit of going to war, I once read a story where the rest of the galaxy was scared stiff of humanity because we were basically space orcs from Warhammer as far they were concerned and I find that concept really really funny. Born on a planet and living in areas poorly suited to our habitation out of pure spite, we moved out in the universe and adapted to live everywhere because we don't believe anything can stop us. Great poem!

I need to rewatch Mars Attacks so as to learn what NOT to do. Nice title 😉 & yep there is a lot of good amongst the masses.. I liked that. We vote you as peace keeper in all future alien negotiations- thank you!

Great piece for the challenge, Paul! You covered our massive shortcomings, but also the hope that lies within majority of us to care for this beautiful planet we are so fortunate to inhabit. Amazing work, pal!
