Dear Gen Z
A letter to you
Dear Gen Z,
I see you shine
We all see you and hear you vine
Sometimes you beef
Sometimes you brief
Sometimes we hear
Sometimes we bear
You seem to forget
You cause a fret
You know we have all been there
When we all were young where
We felt light, on top of the world and full of enthusiasm and hope
We have all felt like we were the 'it', were dope
Felt we were well aware and totally immersed in the what
And we have also all been on the receiving end of criticisms, cut
Before you came of age and became the generation that defines things, we were the 'it'
Boomers called us snowflakes because they said we couldn't withstand life's pressures, hurt
Before we could rest you came along and piled the pressure from your end
Yes, we still fuss about what Hogwarts house we are in we will never stop and
Butter beer is lovely oh!
And Friends, is still a pretty good show
Have you watched it yet?
I know… I know… I bet
The Peter Pan syndrome thing, one of the things that makes you scoff
Yes, I can imagine how absurd we might look, cough
When we show off a single plant we grew without killing it proud
And skinny jeans are super comfy and easy to clean, found
Child, did you ever catch flayers, sweeping the ground beneath you as you walked all day?
Oh and avocado toast is bae
Take out coffee is also a good treat
We got to enjoy the little luxuries you know, since it seems enjoying the stability of financial security is heat
And home ownership is out of the reach of many of us
And yeah we are the 'see my life' generation fuss
We accept that
Still showing off our no longer so cool lives on the papyrus reefs of Instagram @
And for some of us who never really graduated to cooler levels, the cave walls of Facebook
I know some of us never got the hang of hashtags really, look
Creating some in our over-sharing posts because it looked 'in'
Yes, we are not young anymore thanks for the constant reminders, grin
If wrinkles beginning to form around the pimples on our skin
And if increasing BMI is not an everyday enough reminder kin
We feel misunderstood by you
The same way we felt misunderstood by Boomers too
But that really is the cycle repeating itself
I imagine Boomers felt the same about the generation before them and us on the shelf
And soon another generation will come and you will be in our shoes because time does fly truly
But I'll admit I prefer social media with you in charge duly
It's all dances, pranks and cool fun games
It's not 'me' 'me' 'me' the Millennial motto but 'us' flames
One creates a dance, a prank, a game, and others dance to the tunes, the moves
'We dance together' and not 'my dance is the best' seems to be your motto grooves
You also don't put glitter over things try to make them prettier
You don't obsess over image trying to receive acknowledgement from others feeling inferior
You get things done your way
Oh Donald Trump can attest to that hey
You care about climate change, life and political issues an addition to the care we have
You won't engage in unnecessary conversation cave
Text don't call
Your haul
You won't slave for a living valuing your time uping your worth
I mean you won't even take a job if the salary is not stated forth
Oh what cues we can borrow from you
Transparency long overdue
Boundaries you respect calling one by their pronoun
You do it yourself you are down
In charge not waiting for a saviour to lift you up
Practicality, you find a way to make it work even in the saturation, sharp
When trampled by wolves you rise above
Among sharks you dive
Like a seedling even surrounded by thorny weeds, you sprout strong
Bravely you strive to change what is wrong
I'll admit the future is bright
Because you are in it the world is going to be a better place, height
But remember Child, the dances you break your bones to much
Are shared on platforms built by those before you and more such
The solid ground the knowledge of those that came before them
The gem
Scoff and jibe but recognize the fete
Judge but try to understand the weight
And also know that the 'it' never lasts long Chum
Even in the dance or hum
It hangs with you for a while before hovering away
And hopping on to the next that's how it goes the way
Make the best of it now
Change the world because it's your time to dear Gen Zer, vow
And when it's time for the next
Like what happened to us and those before text
When you have done your part
And it's time to go apart
With open arms, we will welcome you to the pages of what was
The pages of beautiful history, pause
I salute you, with much love and gratitude Admiral,
A humbled Millennial

You caught the essence of a GenZer, but that is in the words of a GenXer.
As a Gen Z person, I enjoyed this!
As a member of the forgotten generation gen x I loved this. Also because my son is a member of gen z. Good writing
I like the cadence of this. Nice.
Exceptional.
I want to say that this really resonated with me. Your words are so thoughtful and full of hope for the future, and it's clear that you truly believe in the power of this younger generation to make positive change in the world. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and for spreading such a positive message. Keep writing and inspiring others!
Very nice! CoTS!
What a nice story congratulations
Nice poem, Gal! Honestly, as a Gen-Xer, I much prefer the "old" world. I grew up without a computer, cell phone, or social media. I had to socialize with people, which forced me to get out of the house. Was it easier than now? Not really, the 1990s were harsh on most kids and teenagers. But I remember awesome times in the open air, at the library or with friends after school.
Wonderful! Congrats on the top story
