Dear Best Friend

How You Helped Save My Life

By Annie Mae EdwardsPublished 5 years ago 1 min read
A poem dedicated to you...

Dear Best Friend,

When I didn’t know which way was up, with love and patience, you stood above me, waiting for me to join.

You believed in me so deeply, I rediscovered my roots. And as I did, my leaves changed colors, a seemingly beautiful array that Inevitably fell to the ground... dying due to the coldness of its surroundings.

Yet, death, can sometimes be such a beautiful occurrence.

Ironically enough, it made room for New growth... New adventures... New challenges... And new LIFE.

Because, ironically enough , my most beautiful gains come from my most hideous losses.

And ironically enough, embracing these roots both hold me in place, while taking me to my furthest destination.

And as irony would have it,

it is when I felt the most unloveable that you taught me how lovable I was.

You saw my worth...

My core being...

My beautiful authenticity...

And you matched it with yours...

Leading by example...

Guiding me back...

You believed in me

when I didn’t believe in myself.

And because you found me worth the investment,

you gifted me with a priceless payoff:

reminding me of my value, and

my exponential potential...

Until, with a beautiful change of direction,

I finally started to see what I had pushed away...

I WAS enough. I WAS worth it. I STILL AM.

As a thank you, I will firmly stand in my roots, and be part of the change I do desperately seek....

In both myself, and the world.

There is such a pure beauty about genuine authenticity.

And you, best friend, have such a pure, beautiful soul.
