Dark Acts of the Rare Kind

Flit Firm from Gold to Dirt

Stay Calm in Time and Glum Gain

and Run Away with a Faux Game

A Hunt is Sure to Come

with Fair Fawn and Dawn Doe

Left Once Pure and now Dark

a Foul Seed left to Rot

a Cold Hand Sewn Fate

is Held over an Inky Prim Plum

Born of Hate and Need

and Bit into by a Vain Rapt Mass

And yet, you wait by the Wolf Moon

A Holy High grin on your Face

and with Love do Take

this Wary Hand with Care

So let us not Mind

This Dark Act of the Rare Kind

For they are far More Rare

Warm

Kind

Real

then they are Dark.

AUTHOR'S NOTE:

The Prompt

Write a love poem using only words with four letters or less.

I don't know why I immediatley lean dark with sweet or bubbly prompts like this. I suppose it's because I feel the need to represent the other, uglier side of goodness. This is still very much a love poem that celebrates the precious feeling of being in love, but it stands in contrast with the reality; of how types of love can be demonized by a group of people without regard for who they might harm or subjugate, and how something like love can be twisted into a grotesque and vile act by those we thought to give our love to.

If you have ever been harmed through hate or abuse, know that you are not alone. I see you. You are valid. And you are worthy of love.

Love this!!! Dark or light, love transcends!!!♥️💕

  • Amanda, it's okay to go dark and gritty for the sweeter topics, specifically love in this case. I think we tend to forget that being in love isn't always about tenderness and rainbows. Sometimes it is also about the darker and hard moments. If love only prevails when everything is great and falls apart the second things get a little grim, then that is not real love.

You're right, this one does have a bend towards the dark and sweet, but you write it in there so well. The mix of the two gives this poem a certain elegance that just enhances its effect.
