Croissants and Blueberries

A poem

Today, I had croissants and blueberries.

A departure into healthy decadence:

Buttery flakes of French pastry (no jam),

Warmed in the oven

To activate their sweetness

And separate their layers once more

So that crumbs tumble

And tongue contact melts.

The blueberries tumbled too,

Like mini round acrobats,

Chased around the bowl by my fingers

Until they were captured.

Medicinally sweet with a sharp, tart bite,

Their cloudy purple outsides

Bursting with firmer contact

And sending their strange, virtuous flavour

Around my mouth.

Both have merit:

I feel a tenuous balance

Between having been naughty and healthy.

Ooh, this is a fun poem! I love the idea of the "strange, virtuous" flavour of blueberries. I'd love to pretend you've inspired me to eat some fruit, but realistically, I'm more likely to go after the croissants!

“Healthy decadence”! Now that’s my kind of diet! This was scrumptious, Rachel!

It sounds so good, I am going out tomorrow to get some blueberries. That reminded me that my blueberry bush I was growing on the patio last summer did not produce any fruit. Guess I have to google and see why. Nicely Done!!!

This is lovely and mouthwateringly delicious poetry, Rachel, even if it's a tad naughty. Unfortunately, now I want a croissant. On the bright side, I will have blueberries (both wild and civilized), strawberries, blackberries and raspberries with my oatmeal tomorrow morning with a dollop of honey! Loved your poem!

You made me go and have my blueberries for breakfast, but with yoghurt, not a croissant (because I didn't have one). I love these lines: "The blueberries tumbled too, Like mini round acrobats, Chased around the bowl by my fingers Until they were captured." So playfully correct

Fruit, the healthiest cause of naughtiness since Eve. Nicely done!

Yum! You can imagine the jealousy this brings that I have none at the moment. I recently discovered blueberry lemonade soda. I rarely drink soda but had to try it and it was beyond refreshing. Thank you for gracing us with this salivating offering.

Well-wrought! My favorite chocolate chocolate donuts were on sale the other day. I bought two boxes and ate them both.Heartburn wagged its finger at me and said: just because you can doesn't mean you should, Rommi. Blueberries and croissants are probably far healthier, if still a bit decadent!

I'm mad for blueberries. They are melancholy little worlds that die in a bittersweet way.

  • Oooo, I especially loved how you referred to the blueberries as mini round acrobats!
