Country Road
Take Me Home
Forgotten path well-travelled.
Endless years
Under piled leaves
Drooping eves
Rotted trees.
Down Boundary Road
Rolling towards the Bay.
In the back of my mind
There is the sensation
A cleansing rain,
Washing away the months
The miles
The countries through which I've passed
Since last I stood in that place
The one that time left behind
And as my wheels roll down
Toward the glittering waters of my birthright
A whisper in my mind
The sense that I should have been back
Should already have been home
Yesterday.
It gets closer
Driving down that straight, newly paved road,
It calls to me
The town
The house
The yard
The sense of waiting
The quiet passing of years,
Unnoticed by the buildings, the roads, and the bay
A place that is
A place that was
A place that will be
Papa's house,
The place where time doesn't pass
The place that is always waiting
Its familiar smells and smoke-stained wood
Its decades of love
Its decades of memory
Just down the Boundary Road
Tear drop in my eye
I'll be home soon...
