Friends Among Us
Adventures of art rarely go as planned
When you tumble down the white rabbit's hole
Welcome, dearest writer, to Wonderland
***
Where your wildest dreams become possible
You're sure to meet the most curious friends
When you tumble down the white rabbit's hole
***
Come join the tea party that never ends
And greet the crackpots among the teapots
You're sure to meet the most curious friends
***
Wearing top hats, pinstripes, and polka dots
Or raven feathers like the writing desk
We’re just the crackpots among the teapots
***
Bring your tale be it silly or grotesque
Around these parts madness is all the rage
With yarns raven black like the writing desk
***
Or cheery words of verse upon a page
Around these parts madness is all the rage
Adventures of art rarely go as planned
Welcome, dearest writer, to Wonderland
Author's Note: This is a terzanelle inspired by all of you, the wonderful writers and friends I've encountered on Vocal. We've never met and I wouldn't recognize you if I passed you in the street, but we know each other's styles and trust each other with our treasured creations. It's one form of friendship among many, but its one that has made my life a great deal richer. This was written for Heather Hubler's Friends Among Us Challenge. Check out the details linked below.
On another note, I'm preparing to start a new school year of teaching middle school so life is a little crazy right now and not in the fun way, so I apologize in advance for more sporadic reading for the next couple weeks. I'll definitely still be in attendance but I might be a little later to the party than I have been for the last few months.

Awesome friendship poem!!! Loved this!!!❤️❤️💕
I absolutely loved this. The crackpots among the teapots line made me feel right at home. How delightfully heartfelt, odd and clever all at the same time. Hope the school year has started out smoothly for you!! Thank you for taking the time to fit this piece in :)
I love "the crackpots among the teapots" 😁
What a delightful read💖… I especially loved: “Come join the tea party that never ends And greet the crackpots among the teapots You're sure to meet the most curious friends”✅ I’ve been sporadic on Vocal lately also…. Life keeps getting in the way 😵💫. All the best with your new class… they’re blessed to have you 🤩.
Beautiful work, DK. Felt great to be cordially invited. The feeling is more mutual than we all know. Also, never heard of a Terzanelle. You definitely did it justice. Happy schooling!
I thought of all the mismatched tea cups and treasures I find thrifting. I really loved this! Cute;)
Enchanting! I love the Alice in Wonderland theme so much. 🥹 Very fun and whimsical!
Love this
Oh I'm so up for that tea party!
I love the balance of cute whimsy and eeriness that you were able to balance in the poem, in true wonderland fashion!! I'm such a sucker for anything wonderland-esc (even have a tattoo with an Alice in Wonderland quote)!! Great work here DK, it made me want to revisit one of my favourite books that I haven't read in a while (Unbirthday by Liz Brazwell)!!
Simply love this! Well done.
Oh, DK, this was such a delight and felt very in keeping with the spirit of Wonderland. You will be missed, as you always are, when you're not around as much, but we all know how busy life can be, so no worries at all. I hope the school year gets off to a good start and you have less craziness in a bad way. And again, you with your wonderful wordcraft introducing me to another new form of poetry. Damn you, lol, just kidding! Did really love this!
What a pretty poem! So well-written. Good luck with the start of the school year!
No worries, my friend. I remember those days before term starts soooo well. Loved this terzanelle (?). So many different poetic forms. I was reading a book which talks about Louisville just recently and you always pop into my head when it's mentioned.
