Confessions
I must confess
I'm sick of measuring each other's success
By frivolous material things
Not as human beings
A big house
Designer clothes
A fancy car
Is that all we are?
So fixated on the external
That we neglect the internal
The most important things are right in our face
Yet we forget to embrace
Somehow we have forgotten to just 'be'
Doesn't that say a lot about our society?
We're so caught up in this capitalist raid
Unaware we're being played
So much pressure to succeed
Yet all we're doing is reveling in greed
Showing off to our friends
Flashing that new Mercedes Benz
We'll go to any length
Thinking it will give us strength
Climbing that ladder of success
Trying to impress
But you see no matter how far you climb
You will still always whine
Yes money gives us power
But eventually we'll cower
It will never be enough
It's just more 'stuff'
People can be so quick to judge
Those who have less
Putting up their noses
To the way they dress
Their scruffy hair?
'Gosh' they wouldn't dare!
No college degree?
He's no good to me
Let's open up our eyes
Realise we're all living in a disguise
See people for who they are
Not for their fancy car
Take off the mask
And just bask
Yes material things are nice
But please listen to my advice
Those things are bought
Not given
Be who YOU actually envision
Money can only get us so far
It's not actually who we are
You ARE enough without the 'stuff'
Look within and do what you feel
Find your own appeal
Don't let society tell you who to be
Set your soul free
I hope my confessions resonate with you.
