Compelling Compulsions

a double half pike twist

By BrenPublished 3 years ago Updated 2 years ago 1 min read

i'm just letting the words out

letting them be

where ever they may

some are outcast

some are surpassed

but they are left alone where they lay

true i provide

a moment or two

of non auto correction

of theoretical direction

of miscalculated deflection

but i'm just getting through it

one little latent letter later

one at a time

i'm not sure

i just do it

with or without

a cadence or a rhyme

not prone to cower

not bright but not dour

a bit sweet 'n' sour

not scared of the power

making sense where

there is none

clinging to a waning madness

is better than having nothing to hold

clinging to a grainy sadness

is better than having to be bold

i've nearly plugged all my leaks

there's barely a trickle anymore

so is this the seal or the drought

the calm or the storm

the way it is way it isn't

a suspicious wariness of the norm

a clammy numbness of consecutive excesses

of toe, gut, tongue and brain

    relatable, for sure.

'...miscalculated deflection,' pretty roundly encapsulates everything I've ever written. This, though? This is wonderful. Truly hit me where it heals.
