Cocooned in Joy: Christmas at Home
Holiday Reflections in Verse Vocal Media Challenge
dazzling snow
dances in the winter sky,
cocooning my family
wrapped in a festive warm glow.
twirling to holiday tunes
that seem to float,
as effortless as the
Macy’s Day Thanksgiving balloons.
fresh, woody pine
infuses with sweet
and spicy cinnamon,
a holiday perfume
we all long to bathe in.
Bing Crosby’s soulful
voice serenades us,
as our kids choose
the perfect ornament
to hang on the fine pine tree.
a glass football wearing Santa’s hat,
a antique tin snowman on skies,
a pinecone owl with felt eyes,
a clay coffee machine draped with holly,
and a crystal golfing Santa looking very jolly.
merriment is all around
as drinks of eggnog
and hot chocolate,
with popcorn, are passed around.
playful teasing
between the siblings,
wondering who’ll
end up with a charcoal
surprise in their knit stocking.
peace and love
spin in the air
like an ice skater,
twisting and turning
in a perfect, endless swirl.
warm, golden firelight
flickers across all my
four dogs soft woolly fur,
a glow that mingles
with the coziness
in my living room.
my heart overflows
with joy to know
our family’s all here,
to once again
celebrate
this Christmas cheer.

Ohhh this is one snug and cosy poem!
Nothing is ever complete without hot chocolate. Loved your poem!
This puts me in the Christmas spirit. Actually, I already finished my Christmas shopping and just have to wrap the presents. Great work.
Beautifully penned, Daphne.
