Cocoon

As far as my eyes couldn’t see was an unforgiving blackness enveloping me,

Reaching out to nothingness, encased in a cramped, desolate place,

Trapped like a fly stuck to a web with nowhere to go,

In this place alone that I reluctantly call home,

Fear consuming my existence with walls rendering no resistance,

My world I once knew was truly gone.

A sudden surge of reserves grew strong,

Glimmering light from a crack so small so I pushed and pulled and gave it my all,

The light luminated as bright as the scorching sun,

A magical metamorphosis had surely begun,

As the light blinded my fragile eyes like a rabbit caught in a headlight

My soul realised that I was poised to fight.

I poked my head out precariously from my prison to see tones and textures of vibrancy,

I configured my vision and spread my newly formed, majestic wings out widely,

The sun hit my face as I absorbed its power as my wings led me elegantly to a flower,

The silky softness of its petals melted touched my soul,

The splendour and magnificence of all I could see with the euphoric feeling of being free,

The vastness of the brilliant blue sky above me and these beautiful wings of destiny,

Renewed and reborn to start a brand-new life away from toxicity, pain and strife.

The openness ahead calling to me whispering sweetly ‘Be Free, Be Free’

Free to roam where I want to, free to be unapologetically me,

No more clipped wings and feeling trapped,

Free from being subdued and free to adapt.

Out of the confined cocoon I triumphantly emerged,

Through inner strength and transformation,

My shadow self of the past was purged,

Now I freely fly my journey with pure elation,

My freedom. My release. My precious liberation.
