Cleve's Sonnet 02
The window is open, so where is the breeze I so sorely need
Must I lie here, my head in the window in sweat gasping for air
Did I annoy the god of the winds with some unknowing deed
The heat of summer being more than mortal man should bear
I hear a voice, hey you, you with your head in the window up there
Would you like to join us for a tea or maybe a brew
I looked and two young ladies, one holding tea with a ribbon in her hair
The other with Falstaff in her hand and I knew the offer was true
I'll be right down I yelled, the agony of the heat now left behind
And I joined the ladies, I found the two were now three
And we spoke of classes and aspirations, of theirs and mine
And we sipped cold liquids, I sipped Falstaff I did not sip the tea
And thus the swelter of summer broke and annoyances turned to fun
As new friendships were forged and heat forgotten before classes begun
