Choose love anyway
for those who will always welcome love
Sometimes it's hard to choose love anyways.
To still find beauty in the rose after its thorns have drawn your blood time and time again.
To accept that the rain is necessary for new growth.
For cleansing.
For renewal.
Sometimes it's hard to choose love anyways.
To have your heart ripped and shredded and still invite love to find you again some day,
And then having the courage, when it does, to offer that same bruised, stitched up heart once more and hope that it has finally found sanctuary.
To believe that to be human is to love and that what they say is true that loving someone can be worth it even if you lose them,
Even if you never really had them,
Even if you thought that you had them,
Even when they swore that you had them...
So sometimes it's hard to choose love anyways.
To choose to continue to feed the mouth that bites you.
To accept love for what it is.
Uncertain,
And comforting,
And scary,
And lovely,
And devastating,
And breathtaking,
And really, really hard to choose anyway.
But I will,
Even if it terrifies me,
Even if the rain causes flood,
And the thorn pricks me until my blood stains the rose stems as crimson as the petals,
Even when it feels like I can't bring myself to believe that love is anything more than an abstract concept humanity created to try to give meaning to this beautiful and miserable existence,
I will choose love anyways,
Because in the end, it will have been better to have loved and lost you then to have never loved you at all.
At least I learned.
At least I won the "I love you more" game.
At least I will know better next time,
Because there will be a next time,
Because even though it was really fucking hard,
I chose love while I still had the chance.
And I always will.
