Celebrating the End

What is the point of it all?

We celebrate the historical impact of black men and women

Then politicians manipulate the voting rights of communities they live in

People of color gunned down in the streets for simply taking up space

It is not February now, and no one wants to look this problem in the face

March is upon us now, and we honor the women who came before

Paving the road and convincing little girls we could be so much more

After March, powerful men can call us nasty, frauds, and neurotic

By June they rule who controls our bodies; God forbid we find sex erotic

Then there is April, a whole month dedicated to sexual assault awareness

But no one believes victims when they speak, simply ignoring the sadness

Rapists and abusers pick the mothers of their children without consent

No one is doing anything, but, 'With sorrow...we dissent.'

Before we know it is Pride Month, celebrating love of consenting adults

In June of 2016 we are reminded there is no love without a Pulse

Who are you to tell someone else who they can and can't love?

If you are so worried about faith, then leave that to the God above.

The parades, events, and catch phrases have ended; All we feel is anger

Each of us feeling our way of life is in imminent danger

Shots ring out, people die, rights fade, politicians squabble, friendships end

No one knows what to do after the parade; But something has to bend

Before it all just breaks because none of us can find our place

Except the religious (often hypocritical) white man saying grace

His place is on top; anyone who threatens that must be dealt with swiftly

I hope they all topple down and feel our knees on their necks, respectfully
