Cassia's Cross
A Narrative Poem on Rebellion
Prologue
This is for Mikeydred’s November challenge and Poppy’s November prompt, Horizon.
Crossing boundaries and rebelling brings new chances, but does come at a cost. What’s the key?
____________________________________________________
The horizon red, no one ventured
The great elders would always censure
A realm they warned held darkened lore
That once one crossed, would be no more
____________________________________________________
Cassia’s proud, defiant gaze
Pulled to edge like moth to flame,
Wisened rules could not restrain
She wanted life, She wanted fame
____________________________________________________
Her feet touched the line, glaring red
Where Earth kissed sky, her needs were met
“Return,” called Kave, her bosom friend
“Should you cross, you face the end.”
____________________________________________________
But Cassia crossed, the smooth ground buckled
Reality twisted, notions tussled,
Chaos covered, shadows vast
Troubles came that were to last
____________________________________________________
Shadows danced around with glee
Pranced about, they wouldn’t flee,
Their words filled with bold deceit
“New life” they crooned,”Don’t get cold feet,"
____________________________________________________
One figure came, chuckling with glee,
“Welcome to pure anarchy.
Your world guarded, made you sure
But you crossed, its breath no more.”
____________________________________________________
Cassia reeled, soul nearly chained,
She crossed back before it waned
To stretch beyond does bring one chance
But wisdom and balance line the dance
____________________________________________________
Her heart unbound her soul unchained
She returned lest chaos reigned
She faced life with heart now wise
Sought new sights with tempered eyes.

I love the rhythm of this!
Quite a dance with danger etc… glad she made it back in time 😳.
gorgeously-written! BRAVO!
You're getting to a great point. Sometimes systems are broken and should be rebelled against, but "how" you go about "rebelling" is perhaps "more" important. I love the visuals that you brought into this!
Beautiful style and story
Sounds like Shakespeare (of whom I am barely familiar from eons ago in school). ❤️
Wonderful verse and loved the rhythm and rhyme here,
