As banal, waking life loses its charm
And the horizon of being draws near
The domain of dreams seems a more fertile farm
Where pleasure and wisdom grow without fear

When your lovely countenance manifests
From the nebulous, nocturnal vapor
I read, in your eyes, ancient palimpsests:
Traces of a text from a time before

We lost respect for the sight of closed eyes
For the sage, somnambulistic seeker
Your gaze seems impossibly clear and wise
Compared to your own, my mind feels weaker

Which makes me thirst for a drink of your thought
By you, I yearn to be loved, and thus, taught

What a compelling final couplet to finish out an intriguing piece! Wasn’t familiar with the myth, so thank you for sharing!
I recognised the Caer as Celtic and so Googled before reading so that I had context for your lovely words. I think this might be in my top ten D.J. Reddall sonnets of all time. You create a dreaminess with your words, like you're languishing and the longing that you have is tangible and respectful. This is about intellect, knowledge, and the intimacy that that provides which also makes your sonnet quite sexy, if you don't mind me saying.
Oooo, palimpsests! That's a new word for me. Loved your poem!
Beautiful, compelling work here D.J.! I am so curious about this Caer Ibormeith character...this lovely sonnet evokes that curiosity.
