Busking in a small country town in Australia

A traveller in the Outback earns some fans through the universal language of music

Music spreads like shade under the hot morning sun.

A small crowd in a

Small town but

The music spreads out.

_

A large woman, a larger voice.

Purple dress and purple fascinator,

She plucks songs from an old guitar.

_

Old tunes from the old country,

Played for a new audience.

_

“Bailando

Bailando”

_

She sings in the sun

And old men in old clothes

Clap their hands in the shade.

_

Music is a generous energy,

It gives and

Gives and

Gives.

_

“Bailando

Bailando”

_

She sings, a thousand miles from

The nearest Spanish speaker

And the old men

In old clothes

Clap and cheer in the shade.

_

Music is a generous energy,

It spreads out, draws in.

_

It gives the woman a smile as she sings

And she feels younger by the note,

Transported a thousand miles to the other

Edge of the Pacific.

_

“Bailando

Bailando”

_

She sings and the old men

In old clothes get up from the bench

Dancing

Out of the shade

Into the sun.
