Dead Ends

Striking burnt matches on the ground

Counting harsh words out of our mouths

Building small fires out of ash

Another step from what is passed

If I could have your heart again

Remake this bed I’m sleeping in

When our hearts resembled works of art

Wasting my time chasing parked cars

I hate that this is where we are

Arms length away and worlds apart

So far from where we want to be

Back to the days when we were we

Trying to forget when we were new

The air around changed me and you

The seasons storm have washed away

All that we were, like driving rain

When I saw the happy in your eyes

Came from someone else’s smile

I know that we will never know

What could have been, just down the road
