Bringing Back Black And White

Reset And Rewind

By Kelli Sheckler-AmsdenPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read

Was life better in black and white

behind the scenes on our tv

Romantic men in sweaters

smoking Marlboros and drinking beam

*

Singing in base or tenor

dancing and tapping toes

Smoking a pipe at dinner

dressed up in their leisure clothes

*

Cary Grant, Bob Hope and blue eyes

Bing Crosby singing, count on me

Christmas held a fond surprise

even if it was just a dream

*

Those faded kodachomic colors

memories before the colors ran

Before the whole world was discovered

the days of Buicks and sedans

*

Back when the world seemed smaller

and music set the tone

When families got together

before life was overthrown

*

With the fast paced, made to order

worlds of knowledge at your command

What I'd give for a transporter

to bring that slow pace back again

Agreed, even if it is only going back to the 70's sometimes today is just too fast. Great work on this poem.

Ah, I love a good nostalgia post. Definitely love this era, good job conveying that melancholy feeling for the past.

Oh, this is very wistful as Andrew said. I do wonder if its easy for those times to feel better than now because we are built to love nostalgia and imagine that it was better. Either way, this is actually a beautiful tribute to the time and gives lots to ponder on! Great poem, Kelli!
