Bridge to nowhere

Distractions can lead to consequences

By Cheryl E PrestonPublished 5 months ago 1 min read

Driving in a rainstorm

Distracted by my thoughts

Angry and bewildered

Misused, misunderstood and abused

Tolerated and violated

When I should have been celebrated

Enough is enough

I'm moving on

Probably no one will miss me

Or care that I am gone

The pain and rejection

Is too much to bear

I'm heading to a better life

Leaving the chaos behind

The radio is blasting

I'm singing along with Billy Joel

"I don't care what you say anymore"

"This is my life"

Not paying attention

I missed the turn

And keep driving straight ahead

Tears falling in tune with the music and the rain

Windshield wipers need replacing

They are obscuring my view

I turn up the defroster

Squint my eyes

As I wipe away the tears

Too late, I see the sign

Bridge out!
