Breathe in the Sunshine

Finding peace in a pandemic

As the world spins out of control,

I take a moment to pause.

I breathe in the sunshine.

I let my thoughts wander,

they tangle themselves

in my hair

and gently kiss

my eyelids.

Love holds me close,

tells me to lean in,

protects me from the storm.

It is quiet here.

I see the chaos

out there,

and I breathe in the sunshine.

My heart is anxious,

it tugs at my sleeve

and points at the confusion and pain

swirling outside the window.

I look,

but I do not stare.

I acknowledge,

but I do not indulge.

I scoop my aching heart up

and cradle it gently.

The worried groans

from thousands of furrowed brows

tap on my door.

Fear paces manically on my stoop,

urging me to open up

and let it in.

I pause.

I lean into love.

I soothe my frantic heart.

I breathe in the sunshine.

And the world spins ever on,

unable to sweep me away in

its reckless currents.
